Tal cual lo prometido el viernes pasado, hoy les traduzco el párrafo que seleccioné de ese excelente libro de Charlotte Gill titulado Eating dirt y que siempre recomiendo a los interesdos en el ambiente y la ecología.

… Algunos de estos bloques fueron sitios de levantamientos prehistóricos, los remanentes de esplendorosos enfrentamientos tectónicos. Obleas de la corteza terrestre apiladas en la distancia, terrenos amontonándose como témpanos de hielo en una jalea. Las montañas cortadas hacia arriba, portando los sedimentos petrificados de antiguos mares. Yo partía a golpes las piedras y se separaban como conchas de almejas, rompiéndose en las improntas de gusanos marinos prehistóricos. Los copos de nieve bajaban en espiral desde un cielo azul. Los arroyos eran de un azul brillante, nublado por la harina de roca. El aire era frío y seco, y resultaba electrizante el solo hecho de respirar.

…Some of these cut blocks were prehistoric upheaval sites, the remains of splendiferous tectonic clashes. Wafers of the earth’s crust piled up in the distance. land rumplig like ice floes in a jam. The mountains sheared upward, bearing the petrified sediments of former seas. I bashed open stones, and they came apart like clamshells, split into etching prehistoric marine worms. Snowflakes spiraled out of a blue sky. The creeks were a bright azure, cloudy with rock flour. The air was cold and dry, and it was electrifying just to breathe.
