Core workshop - Giant gas fields of the North West Shelf, Australia

This information was taken from the AAPG website

10-11 March 2011

Over 2 days, Thursday-Friday, March 10-11, 2011
Time: 8.00am to 5:00 /6:00 pm each day
Location: WA Government of WA, Perth core library, 37 Harris St. Carlisle, Perth, W. Australia
Presenters
Robert Seggie (Woodside), Dr Simon Lang (Woodside), Dr Peter McCabe (CSIRO) and Dr Bruce Ainsworth (Australian School of Petroleum).

Experts on hand will include specialists in palynology, ichnology, sedimentology, petrology, and reservoir modelling.

Description
This two-day course will focus on 2000m of core from Triassic and Jurassic reservoirs, from fluvial, coastal-deltaic and shelf depositional systems (Mungaroo, Brigadier & Legendre Formations). Experts will guide four groups of up to 10 participants through suites of cores in half-day intervals. Three of the four main core suites come from fields of the Rankin Trend, North West Shelf Australia, a Late Triassic to Middle Jurassic fluvial to marine progression. The fourth suite is also Middle Jurassic marine but from the Sunrise-Troubadour field approximately 1,500 kilometres to the northeast to give a continental scale comparison. Highlights are fluvial facies including palaeosols, coastal and shallow marine to offshore facies. Ichnological, biostratigraphic, and gas productivity controls will be covered. This workshop is a rare, excellent opportunity for E&P geoscientists, petrophysicists and engineers to view and discuss stratigraphic controls on hydrocarbon productivity.

Attendees to supply own: Hand lens, grainsize chart, sketch pad, pencils, rule.

Course workbook supplied.

Course Outline
8:00 Meet at Perth core library, (Make own way to facility, approx 30min from Perth city by taxi)

Australian Earth Sciences Convention 2010

aescThe Geological Society of Australia (GSA) invites you to participate in the Australian Earth Sciences Convention 2010 in Canberra.
In July 2010, an outstanding selection of national and international speakers, industry leaders, and key decision makers will meet in Canberra in the scenic Eastern Highlands, just a few hours drive from Australia’s major ski fields.

Canberra is not only the nation’s capital and heart of policy development, but it is also home of two of Australia’s premier geoscience organisations Geoscience Australia and the Australian National University’s Research School of Earth Sciences (birthplace of the famous SHRIMP mass spectrometer that has revolutionised Earth Science research over the past two decades).

AESC 2010 offers all geoscientists a unique opportunity for professional development and a chance to hear first hand, the latest developments in geosciences.

Be part of this significant geosciences convention!
