First International Congress on Applied Geology

The Department of Geology, Faculty of Sciences, Islamic Azad University (IAU) Mashhad Branch is organizing the First International Congress on Applied Geology  during 26-28 April 2010

The main objective of the conference is to bring together researchers  working in different themes of Earth Sciences including stratigraphy, sedimentology, economic geology, paleontology, petrology, structural geology, petroleum geology as well as allied themes such as Engineering Geology, Geohazards, Medical Geology etc. The congress will include one day geological field excursion around Mashhad and about one week excursion to a number of sites of geological and general interest ,such as Isfahan , Shiraz and Kerman . This would provide an opportunity to the delegates to observe geology in the field as well as an introduction to the rich and varied cultural heritage of Iran . Iran covers an area of 1,648,000 km² and shares its international borders with a number of countries .Mashhad, the second largest city in Iran , is a historical and holy city and a place of pilgrimage for Shiite Moslems from all over the world with many sites of cultural and geological interest.
