The Third International Palaeontological Congress, IPC3…

IPC is a major international meeting held once every 4 years under the auspices of the International Palaeontological Association. The meeting provides a showcase for all that is exciting and new in the fields of palaeontology and palaeobiology. IPC3 in 2010 is hosted by the Palaeontological Association and partner organizations, and will be based in Imperial College and the Natural History Museum in the heart of London’s ‘Albertopolis’. The programme will comprise field trips, plenary lectures, workshops, contributed talks and posters, and thematic symposia.

XXII Congreso Argentino de la Ciencia del Suelo Rosario, Argentina, 2010
El XXII Congreso Argentino de la Ciencia del Suelo, se realizará entre el 31 de Mayo y el 4 Junio de 2010, en la ciudad de Rosario.
Este evento será un singular ámbito para la integración de científicos, técnicos, estudiantes, productores y empresarios, y se verá jerarquizado con la presencia de destacados expertos nacionales e internacionales de reconocido prestigio.
En esta oportunidad, coincide con el 50º Aniversario de la creación de la Asociación Argentina de la Ciencia del Suelo y con el año del Bicentenario, especial ocasión histórica que galardonará el Congreso, tanto por los caros sentimientos que ello representa como por los innovadores actos previstos en su conmemoración.
El lema “El suelo: pilar de la agroindustria en la pampa argentina” pretende reflejar las características de nuestra región, productora de materias primas y agroindustrial. En tal sentido pretendemos conformar las diferentes disertaciones tanto en las conferencias como en las mesas redondas y en la gira edafológica que contemplará la observación de suelos característicos de nuestra región como así también la visita al cordón agroindustrial del Gran Rosario.
La cita es en la Cuna de la Bandera, en las instalaciones de la Bolsa de Comercio.
Congreso Uruguayo de Geología
Los recursos minerales, hídricos y energéticos resultan estratégicos para el desarrollo y progreso de los países. El éxito en la prospección y explotación sustentable de los mismos está íntimamente relacionado con la profundización del conocimiento geológico, tanto a nivel académico y de investigación básica como en el ámbito técnico-práctico.
Asimismo, la Geología encuentra aplicación en un sinnúmero de actividades específicas, tales como obras de ingeniería, protección ambiental y ordenamiento territorial. Es relevante para el entendimiento de la dinámica del planeta, y consecuentemente, para nuestra adaptación a los cambios globales del entorno.
Por lo anterior, la discusión, difusión y profundización del conocimiento científico y técnico en esta materia adquiere suma importancia, y el próximo Congreso Uruguayo de Geología, a realizarse del 12 al 14 de mayo del 2010 se presenta como un escenario ideal para el desarrollo de este intercambio mediante la presentación de ponencias, pósters, conferencias magistrales, cursos y actividades de campo.
En este contexto, tenemos el agrado de invitar a profesionales, científicos, técnicos, estudiantes, instituciones, empresas y particulares vinculados con las Ciencias de la Tierra, tanto a nivel nacional como internacional a participar del VI Congreso Uruguayo de Geología, cuya sede (Parque de UTE, cercanías de Minas, Lavalleja) con un entorno natural tan pintoresco como interesante desde el punto de vista geológico, resulta un atractivo adicional para participar del evento.

II Simposio Internacional del Neoproterozoico – Cámbrico de la Cuenca del Plata
Despues de 17 años tenemos el agrado de invitarlos a participar en el II Simposio Internacional del Neoproterozoico – Cámbrico de la Cuenca del Plata que se llevará a cabo conjuntamente con el VI Congreso Geológico Uruguayo entre los días 12 al 14 de mayo del 2010.
El Simposio será el escenario natural para la discusión de temas vinculados a la evolución magmática, metamórfica, deformacional del Cinturón Dom Feliciano en forma de sesiones orales y pósters.
First International Congress on Applied Geology
The Department of Geology, Faculty of Sciences, Islamic Azad University (IAU) Mashhad Branch is organizing the First International Congress on Applied Geology during 26-28 April 2010
The main objective of the conference is to bring together researchers working in different themes of Earth Sciences including stratigraphy, sedimentology, economic geology, paleontology, petrology, structural geology, petroleum geology as well as allied themes such as Engineering Geology, Geohazards, Medical Geology etc. The congress will include one day geological field excursion around Mashhad and about one week excursion to a number of sites of geological and general interest ,such as Isfahan , Shiraz and Kerman . This would provide an opportunity to the delegates to observe geology in the field as well as an introduction to the rich and varied cultural heritage of Iran . Iran covers an area of 1,648,000 km² and shares its international borders with a number of countries .Mashhad, the second largest city in Iran , is a historical and holy city and a place of pilgrimage for Shiite Moslems from all over the world with many sites of cultural and geological interest.

Como vengo reservando los miércoles para gacetillas, les presento hoy la información que me envía mi colega la Dra Helen Roberts, desde el Reino Unido, aunque no deben confundirse: el evento se realizará en Estados Unidos.
No me gasto en traducirles la gacetilla, porque todo el evento se realizará en inglés, y en ese idioma deben presentarse los trabajos. Si no pueden leer la información de más abajo, ni intenten participar del congreso porque estarían más perdido que pingüino en Copacabana, ¿no les parece?

We encourage submission of abstracts to the Paleoceanography and Paleoclimatology session PP03 ++ Loess 2.0 ++ for the AGU Fall Meeting, San Francisco , California , USA to be held December 14-18, 2009. This session aims to provide a lively forum to review fundamental scientific steps in the study of aeolian sediment archives and discuss new innovative approaches that enhance our understanding of those records.
Submissions by students and young scientists are particularly encouraged!

Session Announcement:
In recent years, rapid advances in the application of highly resolved sedimentological and geochemical studies, in combination with various geochronometric techniques and chronostratigraphic tools, have opened up new vistas in the investigation of paleo-records of atmospheric dust loading using aeolian sediment deposits. As these sediments are widespread on the continents, novel multi-proxy investigations enhance our understanding of long-term aeolian dust dynamics and climate variability, linking inter-hemispheric climates on time scales ranging from glacial-interglacial to (sub)millennial.
Innovative contributions are welcome on the application of new and established methodological approaches; results on stratigraphy, geochronology, paleoenvironmental assessments; and geoarchaeology of aeolian deposits in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. We especially encourage papers that either
(a) utilize high-resolution loess & dust records to reconstruct the timing and dynamics of past synoptic atmospheric circulation patterns on regional and inter-hemispheric scales;
(b) establish precise correlations and define atmospheric mechanisms that link continental loess/dust records with aeolian records in ice cores and/or the oceans; or
(c) address the challenging effort to incorporate the dust proxies of past atmospheric processes into climate models.
This session aims to provide a lively forum to review fundamental scientific steps in the study of aeolian sediment archives and discuss new innovative approaches that enhance our understanding of those records. Submissions by students and young scientists are particularly encouraged!
