Antofagasta, April 11-13, 2012
The 8th International Symposium on Andean Geodynamics (ISAG) will be held in Antofagasta, Chile on the 11th-13th April 2012. It will be co-organised by the Universidad Católica del Norte (UCN) and the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD).
For the first time since the beginning of this meeting, the 8th ISAG will be held in the Andes. This symposium will provide a new opportunity to present and discuss recent research on Andean geology and geodynamics and its related economical and social issues. We especially encourage contributions addressing the following topics:
(1) Mechanisms and processes of Andean crustal thickening and uplift
(2) Andean magmatism and its relations with geodynamics and crustal thickening
(3) The seismic cycle and active deformation
(4) Interactions between surface, climate and lithospheric processes (deformation, magmatism and sedimentation)
(5) Geological hazards, with emphasis on seismic and volcanic hazards
(6) Genetic models and case studies of Andean-type ore deposits and geothermal resources
Programme
The symposium will be held at the campus of the Universidad Católica del Norte (Antofagasta). As is usual for ISAG, there will be a single session with the aim to favour a multidisciplinary discussion.
However, groups interested in organizing other meetings during the conference are strongly encouraged to propose them, which may be scheduled as pre- or post-symposium activities. The programme will include both oral and poster sessions. The organizers will make their best so that the preference indicated by the authors is respected, but may have to switch contributions from talks to posters if needed.

A preliminary scientific programme will be included in the 3rd circular (February 2012). Final instructions and updates will be e-mailed a few weeks before the symposium. In addition, we encourage scientist to propose special sessions.
